چکیده

For the next generation optical internet to meet the growing traffic needs WDM technology is the key issue to realize high capacity networking infrastructure. In this paper an efficient algorithm is implemented for circuit switching in wide area networks. This algorithm known as semelightpath algorithm has been applied to ARPANET and NSFNET to estimate the blocking probability of a call via fully optical or optoelectronics conversion. Blocking probability has been computed for the above networks. This approach for WDM networks ensures full guaranteed restoration against single link failure on dedicated path protection with and without spare capacity sharing of a network.

School of Computer Science Literature Review and Survey (0360-510, Fall 2006) Heuristics for Traffic Grooming in WDM Optical Networks with Shared Path Protection

The emergence of wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) technology has significantly increased the transmission capacity of a link in today's optical networks. In WDM networks, the bandwidth request of a traffic stream is usually much lower than the capacity of a wavelength. Traffic grooming can aggregate low-rate connections onto high-capacity optical fibers to make an efficient use of the ban...

Request-specific routing in WDM grooming networks

Sub-wavelength traffic grooming in optical networks has gained significant importance in recent years due to the prevailing fractional wavelength traffic requirement of end-users. Dynamic routing schemes improve the performance of WDM grooming networks compared to static routing as they can adapt to changes in the network state. In this paper, the significance of dynamic routing of fractional w...

A Novel Protection Guaranteed, Quality of Transmission Aware Routing and Wavelength Assignment Algorithm for All-optical Networks

Transparent All Optical Networks carry huge traffic and any link failure can cause the loss of gigabits of data; hence protection and its guarantee becomes necessary at the time of failure. Many protection schemes were presented in the literature, but none of them speaks about protection guarantee. Also, in all optical networks, due to absence of  regeneration capabilities, the physical layer i...

Optical WDM Networks: Traffic Grooming in Mesh Networks and Metro Networks using ROADMs

Optical Fiber technology employing wavelength-division multiplexing (WDM) has and continues to be investigated and commercially deployed to meet our ever-increasing bandwidth demands. WDM partitions the huge bandwidth of an optical fiber into many non-overlapping wavelength channels, each of which can operate at the data rate of 10 Gbps (or 40 Gbps or higher). This dissertation investigates des...
